Clermont-Ferrand, l’Auvergne en capitale
De Clermont-Ferrand, on connaît surtout sa cathédrale en pierre noire et son histoire commune avec Michelin. La capitale auvergnate réserve pourtant bien d'autres surprises...

Les tramways couleur rouge remontent la
place de Jaude, vaste esplanade aujourd'hui réaménagée. Les larges façades des Galeries Lafayette (anciennes Galeries de Jaude) rivalisent avec l'imposant opéra municipal construit fin XIXème siècle
Ce monument largement inspiré de l'opéra Garnier (Paris) est aujourd'hui en travaux et retrouvera son lustre et son rayonnement dès la rentrée 2013-2014.
De la place de Jaude, des ruelles animées mènent au pittoresque centre historique. Parmi celles-ci, la rue des Gras, piétonne et commerçante, remonte jusqu'à la
cathédrale Notre-Dame, bâtiment emblématique de la ville, un chef d'œuvre gothique dominant Clermont, construite avec la pierre noire de Volvic.

Sur l'un des côtés de la cathédrale se trouve la place de la Victoire bordée par des terrasses de bars et restaurants. Contournez la cathédrale et mettez le cap vers le quartier du Port, histoire d'aller admirer la
basilique romane Notre-Dame-du-Port, inscrite par l'Unesco
au Patrimoine mondial. Construite au XIIe siècle, elle a fait l'objet de multiples restaurations, dont la dernière en 2008 scelle la renaissance de ce chef d'œuvre.
La ville a associé depuis plus d'un siècle son histoire à celle de
Michelin. Pour appréhender cette «Aventure Michelin» (
www.laventuremichelin.com), mettez le cap sur le site de Cataroux, au nord de Clermont-Ferrand. Le bâtiment dans lequel se trouve l'exposition est un ancien atelier entièrement réhabilité.
Ses caractéristiques industrielles ont été préservées et mises en valeur : toiture en shed, poteaux intérieurs métalliques, grands volumes à l'étage... A l'intérieur, la visite est animée par des objets de collection, une centaine d'écrans multimédias ou interactifs et des animations 3D mettant en scène le fameux Bibendum.

Comment s'y rendre En voiture : Paris-Clermont par la A71 (430 km). En train : Paris (gare de Lyon ou Bercy)-Clermont Ferrand en 3h30
Où mangerA Clermont on mange bien au Bar Leffe. Pour déjeuner mettez le cap sur le Petit Chabichou. On peut se rendre aussi au restaurant à vin La Régalade, en centre-ville, et au Bœuf Café où l'on est sûr de ne pas être déçu.
